FORT WORTH -- Alfred Carlson, 82, died peacefully Monday afternoon, Aug. 13, 2007, surrounded by his family. Funeral: 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Kornbleet Memorial Cemetery Chapel, 411 N. University Drive. Dr. Javier Smolarz, ritual director of Congregation Ahavath Sholom, will officiate. Interment: Following committal prayers, Alfred will be laid to rest next to his wife, Betty, in Ahavath Sholom Cemetery. Memorials: Consideration of contributions to Congregation Ahavath Sholom or a charity of one's choice, in memory of Alfred, is suggested. A native of Brooklyn, N.Y., Alfred was born Sept. 11, 1924, the son of Karl and Fanny Schwartz Kaplansky. He attended Bernard Baruch Business School in New York City and owned a merchandising company before retiring to Fort Worth. Alfred was married for 47 years to Betty Abish Carlson, who died in 1994. He was loved by all who knew him and will be greatly missed. Survivors: His son, Dr. Kenneth P. Carlson and his wife, Rachel, of Arlington; his daughter, Laurie Handelman and her husband, Doug, of Hoshaya, Israel; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Rita Groman; and several nieces and nephews.
