Born on a farm in Lehigh County PA, the fifth of six children, Alice spoke fluent Pennsylvania German and English. Through the tough years of her childhood which included the Depression, Prohibition, and hard work on the farm, she grew up to graduate from Kutztown University and went on to become an excellent elementary school teacher. Truly unique in her ability to understand her students, she infused them with enthusiasm for learning. Beginning in a one-room schoolhouse, Alice retired as a second grade teacher after a career of 36 plus years. In 1941 she married Donald Snyder with whom she shared her love of teaching and the outdoors. His death at the age of 61 prevented them from enjoying their vision of the golden years. With her second husband, Leroy Lauck, she found a companion who shared her love of dogs and travel. Widowed once again, Alice became a Texan in 2008. She loved visiting her daughter Nancy whose home and life will always be better for her ideas and inspiration. Alice lives on in the many beautiful flowers which thrived to her touch. Her oldest daughter Victoria is an opera singer who lives in Italy. Her career would not have been the same without the dermination instilled in her by her mother. Alice's unfailing support has taken wings of song and will forever soar in our souls. Friends and family gathered with her daughters to honor her memory, Saturday, May 29th. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to either: Paws With A Cause ( www.payswithacause.org, 248-844-5656) or Mayo Clinic Arizonea ( www.mayoclinic.org, 480-301-8326). Paws With a Cause trains Assistance Dogs for people with disabilities; please mention the donation is in memory of Alice Snyder. Mayo Clinic donations should be designated "Other" with the following text "In Memory of Alice Snyder for research at Mayo Arizone". Research will be directed towards pulmonary fibrosis and/or osteoporosis. Survivors: daughters, Nacy and Victoria.
