RICHLAND HILLS -- Alvin Hubert Hawkins, 86, passed away Sunday, Oct. 3, 2010, at a local hospital. Funeral: 10 a.m. Wednesday in Lucas Funeral Home Chapel, 1321 Precinct Line Road, Hurst. Interment: Immediately following the service, family and friends will be received at his son's farm on the Brazos River in Glen Rose and then travel to Rock Creek Cemetery south of Glen Rose for a 2:30 p.m. service with military honors and Masonic graveside service and interment. Visitation: The family will receive friends 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Lucas Funeral Home, Hurst. Memorials: Friends who desire are respectfully invited to honor Hubert's memory with contributions in his name to the Masonic Children & Family Services, 338 Grapevine Highway, Hurst, Texas 76054. Contributions can also be made online. His lodge brothers where he served as past master were not only true friends but also provided daily visits with him in the hospital. Their friendships were important in his life. He received his Masonic Lodge 50-year pin in 2010. Members of the lodge will serve as bearers of his casket and honorary bearers. Hubert was born April 18, 1924, near Glen Rose in Somervell County. After graduating from Glen Rose High School in 1942, he entered the Navy Seabees in World War II and served in the Aleutian Islands in the South Pacific. After the war he married Mickey Lee Mercer and had two children, Ralph and Cindy. He co-founded Davis & Hawkins, a construction company in Fort Worth. The company was very successful in commercial, industrial and manufacturing facility construction throughout the region. Hubert married Rhonda Atkins in 1984. After Wendell retired from Davis & Hawkins in 1987, Hubert and Rhonda ran the company until his retirement in 2005. He was a strong shoulder for his family, friends and employees throughout his career. He enjoyed hunting and fishing when he was more active. More recently, one of his favorite pastimes was going to Bossier City with Rhonda and his cousin, Eloise, and her husband, Mike. Hubert was preceded in death by his parents, Amos and Hallie Hawkins; his daughter, Cynthia Lee Hawkins Cheatham; grandson and son by adoption, Robert M. Hawkins and his wife, Mickey L. Hawkins, and her son, Douglas Sandefur. Survivors: His wife of 26 years, Rhonda; son, Ralph Hawkins and wife, Susan; granddaughter and daughter by adoption, Kimberly Phillips; his children by marriage, Chris and his wife, Jill, and Shawna Atkins. As Papa, he is also survived by 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by many loving cousins, especially Wendell Davis his business partner for 40 years.
