BEDFORD -- Arthur Edward Mathews Jr., 81, passed away Friday, May 15, 2009, with his family by his side. Funeral: 1 p.m. Monday at Lucas Funeral Home, 1321 Precinct Line Road, Hurst. Visitation: The family will receive friends 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Arthur's honor to Bedford Hurst Senior Center, 2000 Forest Ridge Drive, Bedford, Texas 76021. Arthur was born in San Antonio and moved to Bedford in 1973. Known affectionately as "Pete" and "Snake," Arthur worked at Braniff as an airline mechanic and at Frito Lay in the research and development department. He was known for fixing various broken cars and items his family and friends would bring to him. He could be found each morning in his chair reading the paper, especially the funnies. Arthur was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter, Ruth. Survivors: Wife of 62 years, Pat Mathews; son, Michael and wife, Marsha Mathews; daughter, Marsha and husband, Jim Simon; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
