SOUTHLAKE -- Avis Owen Purvis, age 96, a retired Methodist minister's wife, went home to be with her Lord on Friday, Jan. 14, 2011. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. Graveside service: 10 a.m. Tuesday in Bluebonnet Hills Cemetery, Colleyville, where she will be laid to rest by her husband, the Rev. Norman Purvis. The Rev. Betsy Godbold will officiate. Service of remembrance: Following the committal service there will be a service of remembrance at 11 a.m. in White's Chapel United Methodist Church, 185 S. White's Chapel Blvd., Southlake, with Sr. Pastor the Rev. Dr. John McKellar officiating. Reception: The family will receive friends at the church immediately following the service. Memorials: Friends who desire are respectfully invited to honor Avis' memory with gifts in her name to The Rev. Norman Purvis' Scholarship Fund at White's Chapel United Methodist Church, 185 S. White's Chapel Blvd., Southlake, Texas 76092. Avis was a member of the Central Texas Methodist Conference and attended White's Chapel United Methodist Church in Southlake. She was a lifetime member of the United Methodist Women. She loved to sew, cook and entertain in her home. She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, the Rev. W. Norman Purvis; her son, N.B. Purvis; sister, Laura Myrle Owen; brother, Travis Owen; and parents, Benjamin and Nancy Emma Owen of Magnolia, Ark. Survivors: She leaves behind, her daughter, Billie Jeane Garner and son-in-law, Robert Garner, of Southlake; sister-in-law, Maxine Owen of Magnolia, Ark.; daughter-in-law, Becky Parks of Southlake; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
