BEDFORD -- Barbara Young Wilson went to be with her Lord on Monday, March 21, 2011. Funeral: 1 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church of Euless, 1000 Airport Freeway. Interment: Bear Creek Cemetery. Barbara was born Jan. 6, 1928, in Mansfield, Ark., to O.W. and Hazel Young. She was reared on a small farm in Crosbyton. Barbara graduated from Spur High School and at age 17, along with her 16-year-old sister, Nell, took a bus to Dallas, where the two found jobs and lived at the YWCA. She never tired of telling about the thrill of wading through the crowds on Commerce Street and kissing soldiers on V-J Day. In 1946, Barbara met Leonard William Wilson in Spur and married him two weeks later. This whirlwind courtship led to a 49-year marriage. They lived the first years of their marriage in and around Spur, where Leonard dabbled in everything from farming to cotton ginning to giving flying lessons while Barbara gave birth to their first two children, Linda and Suzanne. Suzanne died in infancy -- a source of lasting sorrow for Barbara. In 1953, the family moved to Lubbock, where their third child, Greg, was born. They lived in Lubbock for most of the next 28 years. Barbara and Leonard were a team. Leonard was a homebuilder and developer and Barbara was his designer and decorator. When Leonard decided to sell life insurance, Barbara got a license and off they went. In every business endeavor, and through moves to Austin and San Antonio, Barbara was actively involved and instrumental to their success. Leonard died in 1995 and after five years in Austin, Barbara bought a home in Bedford two blocks from her daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Len Bussey. She found great joy and happiness with family, gardening and making new friends at First Baptist Church of Euless in the Joy Group. They enriched her life dramatically. Barbara had a deep love for her family and for others who were lucky enough to come into her life. She cared passionately for and about people she met. She shared their joys, and their sorrows were as real and significant to her as her own. Barbara did not look at the world through rose-colored glasses but possessed a down-to-earth honesty, feistiness and determination. Despite her realistic appraisal of a person's failings, she could always see something lovely in the whole person. Barbara's faith in Jesus and her confidence in salvation motivated her throughout her long life. Her greatest desire was for those she loved to know Jesus. Barbara shared her faith with others with a spirited approach that was direct but loving and winsome. She was never embarrassed by emotion and so others felt comfortable confiding in her. Survivors: Daughter, Linda Bussey and her husband, Len; son, Greg Wilson and his wife, Sally; sister, Jonanna George and her husband, Bobby; grandchildren, Paige Walker Whaley, Kelly Walker, Jack Wilson, Will Wilson, Nash Wilson, Eric Bussey and Melinda Nakayama; 12 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews (Do not delete this line.
