Betty Jean was born in Fort Worth on Jan. 14, 1926, to Tommye and David Glenn Wilson. She graduated from Amon Carter Riverside High School and attended Texas Christian and Texas Woman's universities. She married Cecil H. Brewer on Feb. 15, 1947, at Oakhurst Presbyterian Church and was a lifelong charter member. She was a member of various women's organizations: VFW Post 7836 ladies auxiliary, Daughters of the Nile, spouses of World War II 552 AAA Battalion and the Red Hat Society. Betty retired from the Tarrant County Tax-Assessor Collector's Office. Besides her family, she had a passion for traveling. She and Cecil were world travelers, enjoyed cruises and once crossed the Atlantic on the supersonic Concorde returning on the QE II. They visited many countries. A longtime friend remarked that whenever the church served a big meal, Betty would pass up everything and head straight for the desserts. He asked why one day, and she replied with an infectious smile that, "You have to get to the good stuff first because you never know how long you're going to last." Another friend reflected on her passing and said, "Well you know, now she can hear." She will be greatly missed by all. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil. Survivors: Children, Cecil Brewer and Cindy and her husband, Matt Christian; grandchildren, Nicholas, Meredith and Gabriel Christian; sister, Joy Demarest; brother-in-law, Nate Rothrock; and nephews, nieces, cousins "by the dozens," extended family and friends.
