HURST -- Billey Edd "Bill" Rhoades, 82, passed away Monday, Oct. 26, 2009, in Hurst after a long and wonderful life as a husband, father and granddaddy. Funeral: 2 p.m. Thursday at Lucas Funeral Home, 1321 Precinct Line Road, Hurst. Interment: 4:30 p.m. Thursday in Morgan Mill Cemetery, 10 miles north of Stephenville, on Highway 281. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Lucas Funeral Home in Hurst. Pallbearers will include Frank Watson, Jeremy Omas, James Omas and Jeff Omas, David Hughes, Wade McDowell and Kent Bradley. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Meals On Wheels of Tarrant County, 320 South Freeway, Fort Worth, Texas 76104-9902. He was a 46-year resident of Hurst and a member of North Richland Hills Baptist Church. He married his wife, Barbara, 46 years ago on June 16, 1963. Bill was born Dec. 14, 1926, in Bluff Dale, Erath County. He served his country in the Navy during World War II as a radioman third class, from December 1944 to August 1946, and received an honorable discharge. He worked for the Sanford Webb Buick dealership in Fort Worth, Montgomery Ward and Bell Helicopter, then retired from National Can Co. as a machinist. Bill is best remembered for his quick wit and ability to be a walking encyclopedia. He was an inspiration to all who met him as his love of God and his strength of character were much to be admired! We will miss him as he walks the streets of gold now with Jesus. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Faye and Mark Rhoades of Bluff Dale; and his grandson, David Lee Pearson of Fort Worth. Survivors: His wife, Barbara; his children, Lynn Osadchuk (Gary) of Colorado, Pam Rea of Keller, Cheryle Edwards (Kirk) of Haltom City, Lori Malone (John) of Bedford, Billey Rhoades Jr. of Austin, Elizabeth Rhoades of Fort Worth and Penny Napolitan (Tony) of Newark; extended family including Debbie and Craig Staudt of Brownfield; sisters, Chloy Jo Talbot of San Antonio and Myra Lou Zimmerman of Morgan Mill; 18 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and dear lifelong friends.
