Carl was the oldest son of Merlin and Linda Trehus and was born May 3, 1955, in Monrovia, Calif. He was raised in Broken Arrow, Okla. After high school, he attended Oklahoma State University, graduating in 1977, and went on to earn his doctorate from Oklahoma City University in 1980. He became an attorney in 1982 and worked many years for Anthem Insurance Co. before retiring early. Carl was active in many community organizations, including the Grapevine Citizen's Fire Academy Alumni and the Colleyville Garden Club. His passion for gardening culminated in becoming a Texas master gardener in 2007. Carl was an enthusiastic pet lover and former president of the Bluebonnet Yorkshire Terrier Club and a former executive for the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America. He will be remembered for his generous heart, his quick wit and great sense of humor. Carl's heart touched many; his love for life gave fullness and joy to those who loved him. He will be greatly missed by us all. Survivors: His soul mate and life partner of 26 years, Todd Zaunbrecher of Grapevine; parents, Merlin and Linda Trehus of Keller; brother, Paul Trehus of Littleton, Colo.; sisters, Ellen Malone of Argyle and Wendy Trehus of Boyd; a host of nieces and nephews; and hundreds of friends.
