His deep affection for her was often expressed by his simple proclamation, "I married up." He was a graduate of the University of Oklahoma, where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity, and of Harvard Law School, where he graduated with honors. He was actively engaged in the practice of law. He began his practice in 1947 in private practice with a firm in Enid, Okla. He then joined the law department of Champlin Petroleum, where he became vice president and general counsel, and later was named a director of the corporation. In 1960, he joined the Fort Worth firm of Cantey & Hanger as partner; upon his retirement, he was pleased to serve of counsel. His biography was first published in "Who's Who in America" in 1964 and has been included in every edition since. When asked about his working philosophy, Cecil quoted, "It is amazing how much can be accomplished if one is unconcerned with who gets the credit." Cecil loved his chosen profession. He was an active member of the American Bar Association, serving in 1970-1971 as national chairman of the Natural Resources Law section. In 1992, he received the Blackstone Award from the Tarrant County Bar Association for "exemplifying the highest attributes of the legal profession." He was also a Fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers. He was devoted to his family and loved being in the company of close friends, of which there were many. His was an outgoing personality with an intellectual, amiable sense of humor, modest yet never shy, often joking and laughing, and never taking himself too seriously. He was consistently kind and considerate of the feelings of others. Cecil was preceded in death by his parents; an older brother, William Munn; and a younger sister, Margaret Ann Munn Treadwell.
