Charles Ray Hampton, 65 of Fort Worth, passed away on Saturday, March 27, 2010. He was born on October 8, 1944 in El Reno, OK to Harlan Russell and Eleanor (Yowell) Hampton. Charles loved and treasured his God and his family above all else. He was proudly patriotic and friendly to anyone he met, young or old. Charles loved to tell stories and reminisce. He never knew a stranger. Charles could cook and often made cupcakes for his daughter's first grade class the year the PTA asked him to be a "room mother." He often baked pies and other goodies and enjoyed a good family pot-luck meal at holidays. More than anything else, Charles loved his children and grandchildren. When his kids were young, one of his favorite activities was to mix up a big batch of syrup and peanut butter and share it with Dawn and Adam. His children were his dearest treasures. Charles loved gardening and fresh vegetables and spent many pleasurable evenings fishing with his parents and other family members at Lake Eufala in Oklahoma. The only boy in a family of three, Charles adored his sisters who could always count on receiving gifts and encouraging cards from him, often at a time when they needed them most. Charles was a friend to cats and to all the neighborhood strays, be they lonely senior citizens or latchkey kids left alone for long hours. He served countless hours answering calls at the suicide hotline at one time in his life, and also worked tirelessly donating labor and miles of driving for Tarrant County Harvest. He was once selected for the honor of Ft. Worth Volunteer of the Year. Charles was a dedicated son who respected his father and cared for his mother until the end of his life. He is survived by one daughter, Dawn Womble of Pilot Point, one son, Adam Wade Hampton of Carrollton, two sisters, Mary Flowers of Wylie and Joy Hampton of Claremore, OK, five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
