MANSFIELD -- Charles R. Hawkins, a man of character and principle, passed away peacefully at the age of 71 on Saturday, Jan. 14, 2012, at a hospital in Mansfield. Service: 1 p.m. Friday at Blessing Funeral Home, Mansfield. Interment: 3:30 p.m. in Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Born in Wichita Falls on Oct. 15, 1940, Charles was raised by his late parents, Audeen Green Comis and Harold Comis. Charles devoted his life to serve as a member of the U.S. Army and a Special Forces Green Beret. Before retiring as a sergeant first class, Charles was the recipient of the Bronze Star with Valor, the Purple Heart, the Army Commendation Medal, the Combat Medical Badge and the Good Conduct Medal for his service in places such as Vietnam, Korea and West Berlin, Germany. Charles also earned the Master Parachutist Badge and was awarded paratrooper wings from Laos, Thailand and South Vietnam. Charles was loved dearly by those who knew him best. Survivors: His devoted wife of 41 years, Sakorn; daughters, Kari Thibeau, Loree Hawkins-Arbaugh and Robin Hawkins; son, Kevin Hawkins; grandchildren, Riane, Taelyr, Bailey, Jada, Brooklyn, Asia, Kaylin, Brayden, Aya and Brody; brother, Robert Hawkins; several nieces and nephews; many friends; and his loyal Pomeranian pal, Coco.
