HURST -- Dale Henry Sousae, 92, a retired chemist for Stauffer Chemicals, passed away Monday, Aug. 10, 2009, in Fort Worth. Memorial service: 11 a.m. Thursday in Lucas Funeral Chapel in Hurst. Interment: His ashes will be scattered in northeastern Oklahoma. After the memorial service, friends, family and bowling teammates are invited to a celebration of Dale's life with lunch provided at Hurst Lanes, 720 W. Pipeline Road, Hurst. Dale Henry Sousae, the seventh child born to William Marshall Sousae and Chloe Catherine Floyd Sousae, was born Aug. 14, 1916, in West Union, W.Va. He moved to Oklahoma with his family when he was 6 years old. He attended high school and junior college in Shidler, Okla. During high school, Dale set several records in track that remain unbeaten today. After moving to Fort Worth, he attended Texas Christian University. Dale served in World War II in the 418th M.P.E.G. Co. and made seven trips across the Atlantic, escorting prisoners of war between Africa and the U.S. He was a life member of the VFW. An avid bowler, Dale was recognized as Fort Worth Senior Citizen of the Year and was still bowling two weeks before his death. He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Freda; five sisters; and two brothers. Survivors: His daughter, Ann Julian and husband, Robert, of League City; granddaughter, Robyn Reign Myers and husband, Matthew; and his schnauzer, Fritz.
