BEDFORD -- Dalton "Don" Peck passed away Friday, Sept. 7, 2007. Funeral: 11 a.m. Tuesday at Lucas Funeral Chapel with interment in the D-FW National Cemetery at 1:30 p.m. Visitation: one hour prior to funeral service Tuesday. Originally from the Vermont-Connecticut area, Mr. Peck was interested in helicopters, planes and gliders. He served in U.S. Army and retired as a staff sergeant of the U.S. Air Force prior to moving to San Antonio with his wife, Marie and children, where he was a sergeant-instructor pilot and help to orchestrate and develop the Police and Sheriffs Helicopter Division. Don owned Peck's Airplane & Helicopter Flying Service. Living in Houston, Don took part as a DPS pilot in several movies, one being Sugarland Express. He also did a documentary for a major life insurance company and a commercial for an oil company. He moved to the Dallas area later offering helicopter rides and lessons in flying at Peck's heliport. Don married Darlene Peck in North Texas, where he had been police chief for several towns. Don had a pleasing personality, good appearance, excellent character. He was a hard-working leader, good speaker and was dedicated to his duties. Survivors: His wife, Darlene; sons, Charlie and wife, Victoria, Russell and wife, Robin, Mike and wife, Lucy and Steven and wife, Lisa; stepdaughter, Tracie Schoenthal; stepson, Johnny Portman; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
