ALVARADO -- Delmonte Burks, 50, submitted to the Lord's call Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2006, at his residence in Alvarado. Funeral: 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 30, at St. Jude Catholic Church, 500 E. Dallas St., Mansfield. Burial: 1 p.m. Thursday in D-FW National Cemetery, Dallas. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, with prayer service at 7 p.m., at Blessing Funeral Home, 401 Elm St., Mansfield. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, a trust fund will be set up for his grandsons. Born Jan. 29, 1956, in Herkimer, N.Y., Del was raised in Jordanville, N.Y., by his late parents, John Will and Lois Boykins Burks. Del served in the Navy aboard the Nimitz. Del had a heart overflowing with kindness, mercy and love to all who knew him. We will all miss him dearly and were blessed to have had him in our lives. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Oscar, Willie, John, and Jerome, Zacherus; and sister, Elaine. Survivors: Del had been a caring and devoted husband to Philmaine M. Burks of Frankfort, N.Y., since May 1975; father to Jessica and Delmonte and his wife, Jennifer Burks; and a grandfather of Brayton, Remacle and Dylan Burks; and brothers and sisters, Evon, Freeman, Eral, Iona, Maureen, Earledean, Mary and Lisa.
