FORT WORTH -- Dorothy Gilden Resnick died peacefully, with her daughters at her side, Thursday afternoon, Jan. 6, 2011, during her 88th year. Service: 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 9, in the chapel at Beth-El Congregation, 4900 Briarhaven Road. Rabbi Ralph Mecklenburger of Beth-El and Rabbi Gary Perras of Congregation Ahavath Sholom will officiate. Following committal prayers in Greenwood Memorial Park, she will be laid to rest next to her husband, Sherman. Visitation: Family and friends will gather at the home of Hal and Mimi Klotz after the cemetery service. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, consideration of contributions to a charity of one's choice or house of worship, in her memory, is suggested. Born in Groesbeck on Dec. 22, 1922, Dorothy was raised in Fort Worth by her parents, Morris and Helen Messing Gilden. She was a graduate of Central High School, now R.L. Paschal. During World War II, Dorothy moved to Washington, D.C. to work at the War Department where her friends there called her "Tex." After the war, she returned to Fort Worth to work at her father's men's store in downtown. While working there, she met and married the love of her life, Sherman Resnick. Dorothy was active at Beth-El Congregation where she was a member for over 58 years. She served as president of the Sisterhood from 1965 to 1967 and held memberships in the Council of Jewish Women and Hadassah. She had a wonderful sense of humor and will be missed by her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 28 years, Sherman; and brother, Jack Gilden. Survivors: In addition to her daughters, Michele Resnick of San Diego, Calif., and Diana Resnick Musslewhite of Houston, Dorothy is survived by her granddaughter, Margaret Chase Musslewhite; sister, Betty Cohn and Robert of Austin; and nieces, nephews and cousins and their families, including Leslie Shelton and James, and Clay Foor.
