Dorothy Wheat

BEDFORD -- Dorothy Marie Wheat, 84, went to be with her loving Lord and Savior on Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2012, after a long, courageous battle with cancer. Funeral Mass: 1 p.m. Monday at St. Michael Catholic Church on Harwood Road in Bedford. Visitation: The family will receive friends 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Lucas Funeral Home in Hurst, with a rosary service at 3 p.m. Dorothy was born Jan. 13, 1928, to Joseph and Mary Knopik. She graduated from Mount Carmel Academy in Fort Worth. She retired from Menasco Manufacturing Corp. after 36 wonderful years of service as an executive secretary and was an active member of St. Michael Catholic Church in Bedford. She married her husband, Ralph Wheat, on Nov. 9, 1978. An amazing woman, Dorothy had many varied interests tnat included, but were not limited to, gardening, playing bridge, fishing and dancing. She enjoyed poetry and spending a lot of time with her friends at the Oakcrest Woman's Club. Her elegance, beauty and grace surpassed understanding. One need not understand how she kept going, only that she did. Her tenacity of spirit will live on in many, many hearts. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Rosalie Bodkins; and daughter, Edie Morey. Survivors: Husband of 34 years, Ralph Wheat and his children, Dixi Talke and husband, Ray Talke, and Marti Wheat; sister, Esther Everitt and her husband, Charles; daughter, Mary Newman and her husband, Sterling; son-in-law, Edwin Morey; grandchildren, Melissa Andres, Monica Tharpe, Denise Newman, Dana Quick, Jay Newman, Chelle Scott, Meghan Cave, Meredith Morey and Ethan Morey; great-grandchildren, Jared Newman, Erika Enochs, Jessica Enochs, Crystal Quick, Clay Quick, Kayli Cave, Lily Cave, Brynna Bradshaw and Brycen Bradshaw; and great-great-grandchildren, Christian Newman, Faith Newman, Ashlynn Grace Newman (due in April), Kason Franks, Baleigh Chenault, Madison Chenault and Isaiah Enochs.
