BEDFORD -- Doyle D. Smith, 83, of Bedford died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013, at a local hospice. Burial: has been held in Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. He received his bachelor's degree from the University of South Dakota. He met and married Lorraine at the university. He served in Korea and later transferred to Schofield Barracks in Oahu, Hawaii. His wife joined him in Hawaii. He was transferred to the ROTC Department at Midwestern University in Wichita Falls. He received his master's degree at Midwestern University. He then retired from the Army and became an instructor at Midwestern. He also joined the Texas Army National Guard. While teaching at Midwestern, he attended North Texas State University and received his Ph.D. He then became a professor of speech and drama at Tarrant County Junior College. He retired from the Army and Texas National Guard as a lieutenant colonel. While teaching at TCJC, he received a degree in law enforcement. He then joined the Bedford Police Department. He retired as a lieutenant in 1990. Survivors: His wife, Lorraine; son, Larry and his wife, Deborah, of Arlington; and grandchildren, Michael and Sarah.
