HURST -- Earl J. Harrison, a retired Hurst businessman, passed away Tuesday, March 22, 2011. Funeral: 10:30 a.m. Friday in the chapel of Lucas Funeral Home. Interment: Moore Memorial Gardens, Arlington. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Earl was born Jan. 19, 1917, in Wynnewood, Okla. Earl was a farmer and rancher in Oklahoma until 1946. Earl married Frances Norwood on Jan. 1, 1939. They made their home in Oklahoma for seven years, then moved to Hurst in 1946. He and his father-in-law, W.C. Noorwood, went into business together opening Norwood and Harrison Grocery Store and Gulf Oil Station on Highway 183 in 1946. They started a wholesale gasoline and oil business in 1948 that grew to 31 service stations under the name of Mid-Cities Oil Co. Earl was also a bank director from 1956-1978 for First National Bank of Hurst. He retired in 1980 and pursued his interests in investing and gardening for the rest of his life. Earl helped start the Hurst Chamber of Commerce and the Hurst chapter of the Lions Club in the late 1940s. He was married to Frances Harrison until her death in 2001 and married Dorothy "Dotsy" Kennedy in 2002. Earl was preceded in death by his first wife of 63 years, Frances. Survivors: Wife, Dotsy Harrison; daughter, Patty Sutton and her husband, Tom; grandson, Thomas J. Burnett II; great-grandson, Thomas J. Burnett III; and stepgranddaughters, Julie Shirley and Bridgete Coleman and their families.
