BEDFORD -- Edward James Broadhurst, 82, passed away Tuesday, July 12, 2011, at his home. Memorial service: 10 a.m. Thursday, July 28, at First United Methodist Church of Hurst. Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, July 16, at Lucas Funeral Home, 1321 Precinct Line Road, Hurst. Ed was born April 17, 1929, in Foreman, Ark., to the late James and Addah Broadhurst. In 1943, the family moved to Idabell, Okla., where he graduated from high school. He moved to Dallas in 1946 and attended SMU. On Feb. 1, 1951, Ed married Patricia Hudson and soon afterward served in the U.S. Army in Korea. Ed relocated to Bedford in 1958, establishing a career as a successful businessman and had a second career as a commercial real estate broker. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Hurst for over 50 years and most recently served as treasurer of Wesley Bible Class. Ed was also a 50-year member of Masonic Lodge 1048. Ed always looked for the best in everyone. He will be remembered as a loving, caring, generous and gentle Christian man who loved God and all His creations. Ed will be deeply missed by his family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Robin Andersen. Survivors: Wife of 60 years, Pat; son, David and wife, Diane, of Caldwell; daughter, Sharon Johnson of Grapevine; and grandchildren, Alyson Klaverweiden and husband, Clifton, Maegan and Cody Broadhurst, and David Johnson.
