FORT WORTH -- Edward Joseph Hannigan Sr., 84, died peacefully Saturday evening, Nov. 14, 2009.        Service: A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Family Catholic Church, 6150 Pershing Ave., with Father Joseph Pemberton and Father Joe Schumacher, con-celebrants, and the Rev. M.B. "Johnson" Shannon, Ed's brother-in-law, participating. Following committal prayers, Ed will be laid to rest with his wife, Marky, in Laurel Land Memorial Park. Visitation: Mr. Hannigan will lie in state Tuesday at Robertson Mueller Harper; family and friends will be received 6 to 8 p.m. in the Great Room.        Bearers of his casket will be Bill Baker, Joyce Morgan-Baker, Preston Morgan, Chuck Petersen, John Petersen and Boyd Shannon. Honorary bearers will be Roger Marshall, Steve Russo and T.K. Wilson.        Memorials: Consideration of contributions to the Discalced Carmelite Nuns, 5801 Mount Carmel Drive, Arlington, Texas 76017-4202, or to the Diocese of Fort Worth, "All Things Possible Campaign," 800 W. Loop 820 South, Fort Worth, Texas 76108-2919, in Ed's memory is suggested.        Born in Tulsa, Okla., on June 27, 1925, Ed was the son of Thomas F. Sr. and Lucille Hanrahan Hannigan. His early childhood years were spent in Ranger before moving to Fort Worth where Ed was a 1943 graduate of Arlington Heights High School. After attending the University of Texas at Austin, Ed graduated in 1948 and continued his education, graduating from Landig College of Mortuary Science Houston in 1951.        In 1953, Ed married Martha Angelique "Marky" Shannon. While raising their children, two boys and two girls, the family attended St. Andrew and St. Bartholomew Catholic churches. Being with their family were Ed's and Marky's greatest joys. The memories of the time spent at the family lake house in Granbury with children, spouses, grandchildren, other family and close friends were Ed's happiest times.        Marky preceded him in death in 1992; they were blessed with a wonderful life and enjoyed 39 years together.        Mr. Hannigan's professional life spanned 43 years as a funeral director, including 35 years with Shannon's Funeral Chapels and seven at Greenwood Funeral Home. He was past president of the North Texas Funeral Directors Association, where he and Marky made lifelong friends within the association.        He was a member of the Southside Lions Club since 1967, holding positions of treasurer, vice president, director, citizenship chairman, lion tamer, entertainment chairman, trustee, as well as 25-year monarch. He also held many positions within Cowtown Civitan Club and was a volunteer with Meals on Wheels.        In his spare time, Ed enjoyed playing poker and bridge, casinos and horse raising. He also liked boating, attending the Indianapolis 500 and making holiday hats.        Survivors: In addition to his children, Susan Hannigan Sain, Edward Joseph "Joe" Hannigan Jr., Bob Hannigan and his partner, Michael Larrondo, and Donna Hannigan Butler and her husband, Keith, Ed is also survived by his grandchildren, Chris Sain and his wife, Jennifer, Allan Sain and his wife, Becky, Brian Sain, Candice Freeman and Courtney Freeman; his great-grandchildren, Hannah, Caleb and Rachael Sain; sister, Betty Kutzschbach and her husband, Buddy, of Bartlesville, Okla.; brother, William V. Hannigan and his wife, Francine, of Dallas; sister-in-law, Dulcie Hannigan of Catoosa, Okla.; special friend and longtime caregiver, Birdie Hancock; and numerous other family members and friends.
