ELIZABETH JOHNSON

FORT WORTH -- Elizabeth Jane Pool Johnson, a kind and gentle woman, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed peacefully into the arms of her Lord, Jesus Christ, on Tuesday, June 7, 2011, during her 88th year. Service: 2 p.m. Friday at Southwayside Baptist Church, 301 Thornhill Drive. Interment will follow in Rehoboth Cemetery, Arlington. Visitation: Family and friends will gather to share laughter and tears 1 to 2 p.m. Friday at the church. Born Feb. 21, 1923, in Tarrant County, Jane was the daughter of Nathan and Euna McInturf Pool. She graduated from Texas Wesleyan College in 1945. In 1946, when he came home from the war, Jane married James B. "Pete" Johnson, the handsome young man who had been her sweetheart since she was 16. Together, they raised their family in Fort Worth while both worked as teachers. Jane taught for 38 years, with most of her career spent in the Everman schools. Jane, a dedicated and devout Christian, was a longtime member of Southwayside Baptist Church. She taught Sunday school and, as a member of the Senior Club, gave many hours helping with church activities. She supported her pastors as they often called upon her to serve on committees for the benefit of her church and community. She spent much time in reflection and study as she read her two, now well-worn, Bibles. Jane loved the Lord and she loved and took great pride in her family who greatly loved her and will sorely miss her warmth, sense of humor and unceasing and unconditional love. Survivors: In addition to her children, Luanna Anderson of Kerrville, Bruce Johnson of Fort Worth and Sidney Johnson and his wife, Claudia, of Wichita, Kan., Jane is survived by her grandchildren, Chris Johnson of Pompano Beach, Fla., Ben Johnson and his wife, Melissa, of Park City, Kan., Amy Johnson of Fort Worth and Anna Johnson of Wichita, Kan.; great-grandchildren, Julian and Jeorjia Johnson of Park City, Kan.; daughter-in-law, Carolyn Johnson of Fort Worth; longtime family friend, Jackie Kayne of Kerrville; and numerous cousins, neighbors and friends.
