NORTH RICHLAND HILLS -- Rebecca Shoemaker Sebastian, 87, passed away Saturday, Nov. 27, 2010. Service: 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church, 521 W. Pipeline Road, Hurst. Memorials: Memorials honoring Rebecca may be directed to the Methodist Children's Home, 1111 Herring Ave., Waco, Texas 76708, MethodistChildrensHome.org. Born in Granbury on July 26, 1923, Rebecca was the third of five children of Louie D. and Emily Shoemaker. Living most of her life in Hurst, Rebecca became a member of First United Methodist Church Hurst in 1957 and was a faithful member of the Wesley Bible Class. She was a talented artist and calligrapher, but her main passion was for children and education. She received her BS in education from North Texas State University in 1967 and enjoyed teaching at Hurst-Euless-Bedford's Harrison Lane Elementary for 17 years. Rebecca was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, Gayle Sebastian; parents, Louie D. and Emily Shoemaker; siblings, Alice Dillon, Dean Shoemaker and Louis Shoemaker. The family extends heartfelt thanks to Dr. Harish K. Dhingra, niece Diane Agee and Dinko Menicanin for their loving attention to our mother's needs, and to the staffs of Holiday Lane Assisted Living Center and Community Hospice for their gentle and loving care. Survivors: Children, Jan Biffle (Les), Carol Hamilton (Donny), Kay Teague (Brad) and John Waldrip; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; stepson, Ray Sebastian and children; sister, Norma Harris; and a host of precious family and special friends.
