Eugene Charles Maier Pilot Point Eugene Charles Maier, 91 of Pilot Point, passed away on Sunday, May 10, 2009 in Denton, TX. He was born on November 4, 1917 in Grayson County to Michael Ludwig and Frances (Simmel) Maier. He married Lucille Fries on January 31, 1940 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Pilot Point. In the past, he has served as secretary for Germania Insurance, was a member of the St. Thomas Aquinas Cemetery Association, and the St. Thomas Aquinas Mens Club. He was a board member for the Stiff Chapel School in Grayson County and a director at the Gunter Co-op Gin. He was a life long member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, May 14, 2009 at 10:30AM at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Pilot Point, burial will follow at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Cemetery. Rosary will be read on Wednesday, May 13, 2009 at 6:30PM at Huff/Slay Funeral Home. He is survived by his wife Lucile, two daughters, Cecilia Bartel and husband Henry and Jeanette Jones and husband Roland and one son, Larry Maier and wife Pam, all of Pilot Point. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Curtis Bartel, Danita Matthews, Cindy Howell, Navy Chief Keith L. Jones, Kristi Scholl, Jared Maier, Evan Maier and Ashley Maier and seven great-grandchildren, Jacob Bartel, Stephanie Bartel, RaLynn Bartel, Shelby Howell, Taylor Howell, MacKenzie Matthews and Samantha Jones. He is also survived by two brothers, Walter Dankesreiter of Pilot Point and Bill Dankesreiter of Lindsay, and two sisters, Margaret Todd of Pilot Point and Mary Ann Maier of Sherman and numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, stepfather Frank Dankesreiter, brother Arthur Dankesreiter and one sister, Rita Vannoy.
