Evelyn (Laster) Sliger

Evelyn Sliger of Burleson, TX formerly of Haltom City, TX went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday the 25th of August at the age of 95 after years of struggle with kidney and heart issues. She was able to be at home among family when she passed. Her service will be held at Lucas Funeral Home in Fort Worth on Wednesday, September the 4th. Viewing at 10am, Services at noon, A graveside service will be at Bourland Cemetery in Keller, TX following the service.

She was born in Snyder, TX to William and Velma Laster. She graduated at age 16 and moved to Dallas, TX where her two older sisters lived. Found a place to stay and got a job as an office clerk. She often told us about being in Dallas on VJ day at the end of World War II and all the excitement. She worked numerous jobs in her life including office manager for her husband Carl’s landscaping company and then a Shuttle manager out at DFW airport. She was a very strong Christian woman and worked till she was 72. She enjoyed birds, flowers, gardening, traveling and family. She traveled to all 50 states except to MI. She made it to Alaska, Hawaii, Germany, Austria, and Switzerland and even the little country of Liechtenstein. She could be very silly, smart, loving and stern when needed (and a good backhand with a flip flop). She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother and will be greatly missed.

She is survived by daughter, Linda Duncan and husband, Ron; daughter-in-law, Linda Luttrell; daughter, J.J. Onken and husband, Ralph; son, Garry "Pepper" Bryant and wife, Deb; son, David Sliger; daughter, Debra "Dee" Shelley; daughter, Sandy Shelley and Rance Shelley; and her brother, Donald Laster. Along with lots of nieces, nephews, cousins and more. Over the years she and Carl took in lots of kids that needed a loving place to grow and be understood. We were all blessed with an extended family.

Evelyn was blessed with numerous grandchildren: Windy Bryant and husband, Joe Molina, Eric and wife, Alison Bryant, Chris and JJ Oller, Kim Bryant, Rusty Bryant, Misty Bryant, Adam Bryant, Ben Sliger wife, Stefanie, Brandon Shelley, Chad and wife, Theresa Shelley, Brandi and husband, Sheldon Wall, Larry Newberry, Jeremy and wife Cheryl Newberry.

Great-grandchildren, Tanner Bryant, Coleton Molina, Christian, Miranda, and Daniel Bryant, Tad Sliger and Jem Sliger, Valon and Strador Mabe, Voren Newberry, Colton and Trinity Oller, Willa, Kaelyn and Noah Shelley, Tyler, Natalee and Vincent Newberry, Cason, Triston and London Shelley, Christian, Miranda, and Daniel Rangel, Aaron, Travis, Zachary, and Ethan Estredge, Taylor Ferguson and husband, Cody Stevens, Alyssa and husband, Jesse Owen, and Ethan Ferguson.

Great-great grandchildren, Jayden, Timothy, and Timari Chambers, Gabriel Macias, Genevieve Rangel, Austin Bryant, Henry and Halle Owen, and Kinsley Steven.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband of 26 years, Carl Sliger; sons, Larry, Michael and Rusty Bryant; grandson, Chad Oller; grandson-in-law, Ethan Ferguson; daughter-in-law, Vonnie Sweeney; son-in-law, Brad Shelley; great-granddaughter, Tiffany Ferguson; sisters, Erma Simmons, Francis Laster, Ruth Gillmore, Hazel Wadsworth, and Johnnie Lee Roberston; and brothers, James and W.A Laster.
