FORT WORTH -- Fern M. Buttram, 93, went home to her Lord on Monday, July 21, 2014. Funeral: 11 a.m. Thursday at Bethel Temple, 6801 Meadowbrook Drive, Fort Worth. Private entombment: Laurel Land Memorial Park in Fort Worth. Visitation: Fern will lie in state noon to 4 p.m. Wednesday at Lucas Funeral Home in Hurst. The family will receive friends 10 a.m. Thursday prior to the service. Memorials: In honor of Fern, family requests no flowers but suggests memorials to the Gideons International, Box 24471, Fort Worth, Texas 76124; Bethel Temple, 6801 Meadowbrook Drive, Fort Worth, Texas 76112; or a charity of choice. Fern was a member of Bethel Temple from its beginning in the 1940s and taught Sunday school class at Bethel for many years. She received her education from North Texas State University, Texas Wesleyan and TCU. She taught at Southwestern University in Waxahachie and other schools in Texas. Her last teaching job was at George Clarke Elementary School in south Fort Worth, where she taught for 25 years. Survivors: Her loving husband, Sims Buttram; brother, Phillip Mangum; several nieces and nephews, including Lisa Satterfield and her husband, Dallas; and a host of church family, friends and the many students she taught over the years.
