FORT WORTH -- Fincher E. "Red" Withers Jr., a lifelong resident of Fort Worth, died peacefully Monday evening, Oct. 13, 2008. "The gentle giant has left us!" It was Red's desire that no services be held, but that he be remembered by his family and friends. Visitation: Loving memories and healing laughter will be shared from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday in the Great Room at Robertson Mueller Harper. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, consideration of contributions to the Humane Society of North Texas, 1840 E. Lancaster Ave., Fort Worth, Texas 76103, in his memory, is suggested. Fincher Edward Withers Jr. was born in Fort Worth, the son of F.E. and Hilda Bolliger Withers. Red, as he was known to family and friends, graduated from old Paschal High School and served in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific during World War II. He operated Withers Electric Company, a south side institution, until his retirement a few years ago. His passion was ranching, and he spent all of his "leisure" hours tending to his ranch near Meridian. He was an avid horseman and cutter, having been a charter member of the Cowtown Posse. For a time, Red operated River Ranch Stables in Benbrook. He was a supporter of the Golden Gloves program and will be warmly remembered by the many friends he made throughout his life. Survivors: His wife, Bobbie; his daughter, Bobette Grant and her husband, John; sister, Nita Cowart; nieces, Jeney Witt, Sandy Dean and Belinda Rogers; nephew, Mark Taylor; cousin, Marion Badey; and his four-legged friends.
