FORT WORTH -- Francis Eugene Altaras, 89, a dentist, died peacefully Sunday afternoon, July 27, 2008. Service: 9 a.m. Thursday in Oakwood Cemetery, 701 Grand Ave. The Rev. Dr. William Longsworth and the Rev. Dr. Lamar Smith will officiate. Visitation: Following services in the cemetery, Dr. Altaras' family will receive friends at the home of his son and daughter-in-law, Kent and Karen Altaras. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, consideration of contributions to First United Methodist Church of Fort Worth or a charity of one's choice, in Dr. Altaras' memory, is suggested. Born in Cleburne on Dec. 11, 1918, Francis Eugene Altaras was the son of Emile and Nancy Bicknell Altaras. He was a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin and Baylor Dental School. Dr. Altaras served as a dentist in the U.S. Navy during World War II and continued his practice in Fort Worth after completing his naval service. He practice dentistry for 50 years before his retirement. Since retirement, he had worked tirelessly supplying fresh vegetables from his garden to neighbors and distributing his legendary peanut brittle to friends and family alike. He also spent hours contemplating the political and economic state of our country and authored countless letters to the entire political spectrum, giving his commentary and suggestions for helping the people of our nation. Dr. Altaras loved the Texas Longhorns and the Dallas Cowboys and delighted in following a good quail dog on a November morning. He excelled at catching the biggest fish and was natural born domino player. Dr. Altaras was a good guy who lived a long and good life and will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Survivors: In addition to his wife of 63 years, Katherine, Dr. Altaras is survived by his son, Kent Altaras and his wife, Karen; his daughters, Nancy Altaras and Kamille Altaras Kemble and her husband, Scott; and grandchildren, Melissa Fulcher and her husband, Sam, Matthew Altaras, John Scott Kemble Jr. and Ned Kemble.
