MANSFIELD -- Freeman Lincoln Martin Jr., 74, passed away Friday, Jan. 13, 2012. Service: 10 a.m. Monday, Blessing Funeral Home, 401 Elm St., Mansfield. Interment: 11 a.m. Tuesday in Mars Hill Cemetery, Lewisville, Ark. Freeman was born Aug. 25, 1937, in De Kalb to Freeman L. Martin Sr. and Elma Martin who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Sara Ortega, and brothers, Harold L. Martin and Thomas M. Martin. Freeman and Janice raised their family in Arlington and moved to Mansfield in 1989. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather of four grandsons. Freeman served in the Dallas Police Reserves and later served as commander of the Dallas County Sheriffs Reserves. He was a Mason, served in the Army National Guard, worked for General Motors and then worked for Allstate Insurance Co. and retired after 33 years. Freeman attended First United Methodist Church in Mansfield. He was an avid deer hunter and enjoyed raising cattle on his farm. Survivors: In addition to his wife, Janice E. Martin of 52 years, Freeman is survived by his son, Rick R. Martin and wife, Terri, and their sons, Benjamin and Brody; daughter, Kimberley M. Taylor and husband, Gregg, their sons, Kyle and Matthew; sister, Nancy Watson and husband, Jimmy; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
