GENE AURIN

FORT WORTH -- Gene Simcox Aurin died peacefully early Monday morning, Feb. 6, 2012, after recently celebrating her 94th birthday. Memorial service: 2 p.m. Thursday in the sanctuary at First Presbyterian Church, 1000 Penn St. A reception will be held at the church immediately following the service. Memorials: Consideration of contributions to First Presbyterian Church, James L. West Special Care Center, 1111 Summit Ave., Fort Worth, Texas 76102, or to a charity of one's choice, in Gene's memory, is suggested. Born Feb. 2, 1918, in Mooringsport, La., Gene was the youngest daughter of H.B. and Peyton Simcox. She lived in Fort Worth and graduated from Stripling High School and was the city champion in tennis. Gene attended Lindenwood College in St. Charles, Mo., and the University of Texas at Austin, where she was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority. In September 1941, Gene married Dr. Fred Aurin. They had 66 wonderful years together while they raised their three children, traveled extensively and skied in Colorado. She and her husband loved skiing, golfing, sailing, gourmet dinners, dancing and music. She loved life! In addition to First Presbyterian Church, Gene was a member and active volunteer of various civic and social organizations, including the International Wine and Food Society, Shady Oaks Country Club, Medical Dames, Ridglea Garden Club, Fort Worth Lecture Foundation and Rejabian, among others. Her family expresses deep appreciation for the loving care given by Florine Kemp, Jean Applon, Merlin Sanders and Vera Scaggs. She was preceded in death by her husband and sisters, Mina Rustin and Sara Lawson. Survivors: In addition to her daughters, Kathie Cummins and her husband, Clay, of Fort Worth and Pam Asbell and her husband, Bob, of Tucson, Ariz., Gene is survived by her son, Fritz Aurin and his wife, Bethany, of Steamboat Springs, Colo.; grandchildren, Les Kreis, Laurin and Allen Cummins, Corey and Kristi Asbell, Kristen Buchanan and Aleigh and Hayleigh Aurin; three great-grandchildren; and brother, Burt Simcox of Colorado Springs, Colo.
