GEORGE LANE

FORT WORTH -- George William Lane, 82, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle whose greatest pleasure was spending time with his family, died peacefully Monday, Jan. 22, 2007. Funeral: 10 a.m. Friday in the chapel at Robertson Mueller Harper. Burial: Following committal prayers, George will be laid to rest in Greenwood Memorial Park. Bearers of his casket will be Blaine Werner, Jeff Robertson, Trey Burford, Blaine Patrick Werner, Jr., Chase McCabe and Gary Mitchell. Visitation: Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be at 4:30 p.m. Thursday in the chapel at Robertson Mueller Harper. Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the George Lane Memorial Scholarship Fund at TCU or a charity of choice. George was born in 1924 in Scobey, Miss., as the third child of Bertha and Ira Lane. He was honorably discharged from the Army in 1952. In 1954, George married Jean Tierney in Fort Worth while working at General Motors Parts Division and attending TCU. He earned a B.B.A. from SMU in 1958 and continued to do graduate work there. Most of his career was spent as a district manager for Oldsmobile and in retirement he became a General Motors ambassador. Survivors: Wife of 52 years, Jean Tierney Lane; daughters, Angela Lane Robertson, Jennifer Lane Werner and her husband, Blaine, Anita Lane and Elizabeth Lane; grandchildren, Jeff Robertson, John "Trey" Burford III, Mary Anne Robertson, Blaine Patrick Werner Jr., Tierney Werner, Margo Werner, Nolan Winsman and Olivia Winsman; siblings, Pauline Lane Mitchell, Ira Lane Jr. and his wife, Janice, Deon Lane, and J.K. Lane and his wife, Rachel; and many nieces and nephews and their families.
