GRAPEVINE -- George Milton Wheeler passed away Saturday, April 13, 2013, after a full, long life. Memorial service: 2 p.m. Friday, May 3, at First United Methodist Church of Colleyville, 1000 Church St., Colleyville. Memorials: Memorial Prayer Garden at First United Methodist Church of Colleyville, 1000 Church St., Colleyville, Texas 76034. George was born May 11, 1918, in Morse, Saskatchewan, Canada, the son of George Edward Wheeler and Nancy Ella Wheeler. At the age of 5, he, his parents and five brothers and sisters moved to Skamania County, Wash., and he was naturalized a U.S. citizen. George served in the U.S. Army during World War II, seeing action and duty in Europe and Okinawa. During Army training in California, he married his hometown sweetheart, Berniece Kolbaba, on May 8, 1943. After the war, George owned several businesses, including a fishing resort on Francois Lake, British Columbia, Canada. He and Berniece retired to Grapevine in 2007. Survivors: His wife of 69 years, Berniece; his son, Wesley and wife, Susan, of Dallas; granddaughter, Blair Wilbur and her husband, Justin, of Dallas; grandson, Cole of Dallas; several other family members; and many, many friends.
