Memorials: In lieu of flowers, Bernice would prefer contributions to the American Cancer Society or American Heart Association. Bernice was born in Beggs, Okla., on Feb. 21, 1911, to George and Flora Mae Davis. By the age of 9, she had lost both her parents, but was raised with love and devotion by her aunt, Maud Vines, in New Franklin, Mo. Bernice graduated from Williams Woods College in Fulton, Mo., in 1930, and East Central State College in Ada, Okla., in 1936. Bernice married John Scott Hatcher in 1938. He preceded her in death in 1987. She lived a life of decency, integrity and service. She taught school for 34 years, retiring in 1975. She was involved with the Grapevine Garden Club, historical society, women's division of Grapevine C of C and golf course advisory board, and was Grapevine Citizen of the Year in 1998. Bernice will be remembered for her musical talent and contributions. When anything in Grapevine needed a piano player she happily volunteered. Bernice was a much loved and respected person and will be missed by all who knew her. Survivors: Son, John Scott Hatcher Jr.; grandson, Steven Hatcher and wife, Michelle; great-granddaughter, Mary; numerous extended family; and special caregiver, Debra Sanders, all of whom she loved greatly.
