Gordon was born Nov. 22, 1921, to Henry Lee and Nola Young Donaldson. He married Alberta Brothers on July 14, 1945, in San Bernadino, Calif. Gordon graduated from Polytechnic High School in 1939. He attended Texas Wesleyan College and Texas Christian University. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1943 and became a B-24 pilot during World War II. He was a member of professional baseball and spent seven years with the New York Yankees and Chicago Cubs organizations. Gordon played for the Plymouth Oilers, a semi-pro baseball team, for seven years. They were national champions in 1951 and state champions six times. He retired in 1985 from Marathon Oil Co. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and loved being with his children and grandchildren. Survivors: Wife, Alberta Brothers Donaldson; sons, Gordon R. "Donny" Donaldson Jr. and wife, Bobbie, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Darrell Donaldson of Houston; daughter, Debbie Donaldson Williams and husband, Johnny, of Bay City; grandchildren, Kristin and husband, Rusty, Lauren, Charley and wife, Lindsay, DJ, Whitney and Micheal; and great-grandchild, Ellie Marie.
