IMOGENE LINEBARGER

FORT WORTH -- Imogene Rushing Linebarger died peacefully in her sleep on Friday, March 28, 2008, at age 96. Funeral: 3 p.m. Tuesday in the Leonard Memorial Chapel at the First United Methodist Church of Fort Worth, 800 W. Fifth St. The Rev. Dr. William Longsworth and the Rev. Larry Grubb will officiate. Following the service at the church, Gene will be laid to rest, privately, next to her husband, Line, in Laurel Land Memorial Park. Honorary bearers of her casket will be Bruce Alford, Jim Bradshaw, Tim Curry, Robert Herstein, David Lavine, Bill Magnussen, Mike Merrill, Mike Moore, Wayne Pinkerton and Ted Tomlinson. Visitation: Mrs. Linebarger's family will receive friends in Wesley Hall at the church, immediately following the chapel service. Memorials: Consideration of contributions to the Geriatrics Div. Foundation at UNT Health Science Center, in care of Janice Knebl, D.O., 855 Montgomery St., Fort Worth 76107, in Gene's memory, is suggested. A native of Camden, Tenn., Imogene was born June 29, 1911, the daughter of Clay and Aleta Stigall Rushing. She was the youngest of seven children. Gene grew up in Camden then attended Lambuth College in Jackson, Tenn., where she received her teaching credentials. She returned to Camden to teach for several years at the high school. Gene met her future husband, O.F. "Line" Linebarger, in Texas while visiting her brother and sister-in-law. She married Line Aug. 9, 1937, and raised their two children, Lee and John. Gene and Line lived a full and happy life for 70 years. Gene was a member of First United Methodist Church of Fort Worth and its Twosome Sunday School Class. She was also member of the Auxiliary at Harris Methodist-Fort Worth Hospital where she was a longtime volunteer. Among her duties were the information desk, gift shop and the flower room. Gene and Line both enjoyed traveling the world with friends, both before and following retirement. Survivors: In addition to her children, Gene is survived by her son-in-law, Olan Watkins; grandchildren, Kay and Brian Watkins; sister-in-law, Geraldine Linebarger Bond of Jonesborough, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews.
