FORT WORTH -- J A Avery Jr., 80, passed away Monday, Aug. 23, 2010, surrounded by his loving family.        Funeral: 10 a.m. Thursday at Airport Freeway Church of Christ, 210 Airport Freeway, Euless. Visitation: The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Lucas Funeral Home in Hurst.        J A, the son of John Alexander Avery and Esther Dell Palmer, was born May 1, 1930, in Morton. He served in both the Army and the Air Force. He had a degree in horticulture and was doing his own yard work at age 80. Joe was a loyal, loving person with a strong devotion to God and family.        Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ. Philippians 1:6        He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Mary Frances Crymes; and stepson, Michael Bruce.        Survivors: Wife, Shirley Avery; stepsons, Grover Bruce Jr. and Tracy Dean Bruce; daughter, Shonda Garcia and husband, Joe Garcia; 13 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sister, Johnnie Laurene Williams; and daughter-in-law, Bridget Bruce.
