J. Cobb

RICHLAND HILLS -- Dr. J.W. Cobb, passed away Friday, May 20, 2011.        Funeral: 10:30 a.m. Monday in the chapel of The Hills Church of Christ, 6300 N.E Loop 820 in North Richland Hills. Interment: Rose Hill Cemetery. Visitation: The family will receive friends 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Lucas Funeral Home, 1321 Precinct Line Road in Hurst.        A sharecropper's kid from Cobb's Hollow in the heart of Solway, Tenn., J.W. escaped the poverty of his youth but was proud of his upbringing. Dr. Cobb worked on the railroad and joined the Marines in World War II. He relocated to Texas and married Peggy Young. He attended TWC and followed that by receiving his DDS from Baylor College of Dentistry at age 33. He served his patients in Richland Hills, was on the dental staff at Glenview Hospital then North Hills Hospital. He served his profession as president of the Fort Worth District Dental Society and vice president of the Texas Dental Association. He served his city as a councilman and mayor. He loved his faith community at Richland Hills Church of Christ.        One of the most impressive parts of my parents' life was their ability to be disciplined. They delayed having children for nine years. Whether it was right or wrong at this point of my life I don't care. They did it so they could afford to educate us so we might have better lives. They did and succeeded. They, like many Christian parents, wanted us to follow in their faith, they were never pushy, but lived it out to their best efforts. They succeeded. Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints--Psalm 116:15. From the sweet grass to the packing house, from life until death, we travel between eternities. He now rests with his fathers. Rest in peace my father, my friend, we had lots of fun old buddy--Stan.        Survivors: Dr. and Mrs Cobb had three children, Stanton, Elise and Hugh; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
