J.O. Sheid, Jr., 82, of Arlington passed away Tuesday, September 15 after a lengthy battle with cancer. ? Visitation will be Monday, September 19, from 6 pm ? 8 pm at Blessing Funeral Home, 401 Elm Street in Mansfield. ? Graveside rites are scheduled for 10 am Tuesday, September 20, at the Dallas ? Fort Worth National Cemetery. ? Mr. Sheid retired from a rewarding 40-year career as a newspaperman in West Texas and served his Lord as a deacon at the Birdwell Lane Church of Christ in Big Spring, and attended the New York Avenue Church of Christ in Arlington. ? During WWII, Mr. Sheid a Sergeant and Surgical Technician served with the Medical Detachment 163rd Infantry in the Asian-Pacific Theater and in Japan. Mr. Sheid earned citations and decorations including the Purple Heart. ? J.O. is survived by his wife of 63 years Bonnie May; daughter Jolene Wasson and husband Jack and grandson Jody, all of Arlington; other surviving family include three sisters, Eileen Stringer, Cloma Teaff, Mary Burt and husband Jim; brother Bill Sheid and wife Betty, and several nieces and nephews. ? Granddad will be greatly missed.
