FORT WORTH -- James Harlin Jackson, 89, died peacefully Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2009, due to complications from a fall. Service: 1 p.m. Saturday at University United Methodist Church. Interment: James will be laid to rest in Oakland Cemetery, Weatherford. Visitation: Family and friends will be received noon to 1 p.m. Saturday at the church. Born in Dennis on Dec. 12, 1919, James was the son of Will and Ann Plumlee Jackson. He graduated from Peaster High School in 1941 before joining the Marines. A member of the "Greatest Generation," James served in the U.S. Marine Air Corps during World War II and Korea. His squadron was the first to land on Guadalcanal on Aug. 20, 1942. While on 30 days leave, He married the former Lois Scherer on Dec. 29, 1943. James loved aircraft work and flying. He worked for General Dynamics and LTV Aircraft. He was a 50-year Mason. As a member of Arlington Heights Lodge #1184, A.F.& A.M., he helped confer the Masonic rites at the funeral for any brother who had asked for his service. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Novelene Jackson Ellis. Survivors: In addition to his wife of 65 years, Lois, James is survived by his daughter, Sharron Jackson Schlomer and her husband, Lee, of Houston; and grandchildren, Ashley, Kathleen and Daniel.
