? James Douglas Nelson was born Feb. 1, 1922, in Mansfield. Douglas worked many years as a beef boner at Armour, Swift and other packing houses on the north side of Fort Worth, where he was known as "McGee." He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of Dixie Heights Baptist Church and the American Legion. Douglas loved the country and wrote and sang country music. ??? He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Elna Nelson, and their firstborn child, Baby Girl Nelson. ??? The family would like to give special thanks to the staff of Hurst Plaza, Harris HEB, Covenant Hospice and Vista Care Hospice. ??? Survivors: Son, James Douglas Nelson Jr. and his wife, Elise, of Tyler; daughters, Deborah Pelton and Darlene Scholes and her husband, Bob, of Fort Worth; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
