Jerry Daffern

Jerry was born in Dublin, Texas on February 2, 1938 to Jack and Edna Spruill Daffern. He moved to Fort Worth as a young child, graduated from Arlington Heights High School and TCU. While in high school, Jerry worked at Roy Pope's Grocery. He rose early, went down to the Farmers Market and purchased produce. Came back and stocked it and then went to school. While at TCU he was the manager of The Carriage House, one of Fort Worth's finest steak houses at the time. Jerry worked as District Manager for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company until his retirement in 1990. He had a brilliant mind and was a man of many talents. He could fix anything and usually did until his failing health prevented it. He would then "supervise" someone else executing "the plan". His mantra: Plan & Execute. He decided he wanted to learn how to fly a plane, took lessons and earned his pilot's license. In their earlier years, he and his wife, Nancy, shared an enthusiasm for water sports, fishing and hunting and later, travel. His "goal" was to visit every one of the original 48 states, which they did. And all through the years, they greatly enjoyed playing cards with their friends. Jerry was a loving husband and father and grandfather and will be deeply missed. Jerry placed his faith in Jesus Christ and worshipped at St. Philip Presbyterian Church in Hurst for many years. Memorials: If you choose, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Emergency Aid Fund at St. Philip Presbyterian Church or a charity of your choice. Survivors: Wife of almost 50 years, Nancy; son, Jerry Daffern, Jr.; daughter, Kathryn Berney; grandchildren, Alex Wade Daffern and Amanda Berney; dear brother-in-law, uncle, cousin and friend.
