WICHITA FALLS -- Jesse W. Ross went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, June 2, 2009, in Wichita Falls. Pallbearers will be Dean Simpson III, Anthony Wayne Kirby, Joshua Simpson, Nathaniel Simpson, Dathan Raynes and Clenton Raynes. Honorary pallbearers will be Jessica McGregor, Thomas, Taylor and Kameron Moore, Clenton "Butch" Raynes, Adolf Farias and Joshua Spiva. Mr. Ross was born Feb. 6, 1934, in Fort Worth. He was the only son of McCullough Ross and Una Sharp Ross. He served in the U.S. Army and the U.S. Air Force. He was a veteran of the Korean War as well as the Vietnam War. Mr. Ross was honorably discharged from both the Army and Air Force. Upon his retirement from the Air Force, he joined the U.S. Postal Service. He made the Postal Service his second career and retired in 1994 after 20 years. Mr. Ross, along with his wife, Shirley, also became foster parents for the juvenile probation department during the early 1990s. Mr. Ross was a member of First Baptist Church of Wichita Falls. He and his wife celebrated 28 years of marriage on April 23, 2009. Mr. Ross fought a long hard battle with cancer, with treatment not only in the Wichita Falls area but also at M.D. Anderson in Houston. He was preceded in death by his parents, McCullough and Una Sharp Ross. Survivors: His wife, Shirley; their combined family, sons, Dean Simpson Jr. and wife, Jan, and Gary W. Simpson and wife, Dorothy; daughters, Judy Plecher and Edith Hefine, both of Indiana, Rhonda McNiell and husband, Gary, of Porter, Jennifer Ross of San Antonio and Patricia Moore and husband, Thomas, of Kentucky; grandchildren, Dean Simpson III and wife, Tiffany, Anthony Wayne Kirby and fiancee, Darcus, Elizabeth Kirby, Jessica McGregor and husband, Justin, Joshua Simpson, Shelby Martin, Nathaniel Simpson, Danyelle Perez, Taylor Moore, Courtney Simpson and Kameron Moore; and stepgrandsons, Carlos and Mark Sepeda of Houston. He was a proud great-grandfather to his great-grandsons, Jeremiah and Payton, and great-granddaughters, Jade and Kaylee. He is also survived by numerous cousins in the Mansfield/Kennedale area. He considered John and Sandra Shaffer and their children, Jan Greenway and her children, Clint and Rhonda Raynes and their children, George and Fran Lindsay and their children, and Dean Williams and family of Washington state as extended family.
