JoAnn Riggs Greer Thompson, age 85, ended her beautiful life on this earth on March 17, 2014 and is now resting in the arms of her Lord Jesus Christ. JoAnn was born July 18, 1928 in Amarillo, Texas to James and Josephine Riggs, Jr. She graduated from San Jacinto High School in Houston, Texas, June 1945. In High school she took all the business education offered as she knew it would be impossible for her to go to college. Shortly after graduation she became secretary to an agent for Hartford Insurance Company and so began her long administrative career. JoAnn married Elbert “Lee” Greer February 5, 1949 and they began their life together in Houston, Texas. Lee and JoAnn were proud parents of Genie, Jim and David, their greatest accomplishments. Lee ended his courageous battle with a rare lung disease, March 3, 1993. JoAnn was very involved in the church from birth; Sunday school, choir, and G.A.’s. Lee and JoAnn invested their lives in making sure their children were raised in the church so they would come to know and love Jesus. JoAnn devoted her life to teaching her children and other young men and women in the church how to live godly lives. She lived her life within her family and the business community with integrity and humility, investing in the lives of everyone she met. JoAnn was appointed by the Mayor of Hurst as general chairman of the American Revolution Bicentennial Committee. She was second Vice President of the Women’s Division Hurst-Euless Chamber of Commerce. During this time JoAnn owned and operated her own business, Secretarial Associates. In later years she was the Coordinator of the Metro Net Business Luncheons, an outreach of First Baptist Church Euless to the business community. While working at First Baptist Church Euless she met her second love, Al Thompson and they were married June 20, 1998. Al adored JoAnn and devoted his life to caring for her every need. After moving to Waxahachie, they continued to minister together at Farley Street Baptist Church in the outreach ministry and library. JoAnn will be greatly missed by Al, her loving husband of 15 years; her children, Genie and husband Hunter, Jim and wife Dawn, and David; grandchildren, Matt, Lacey, Samantha, and Morgan, and many other extended family and friends.
