Joe Richard Clark ended his walk by faith and began his walk by sight in the presence of the Lord Friday, April 4, 2008. Memorial service: 2 p.m. Tuesday at Believers' Chapel, 6420 Churchill Way in Dallas. Joe was born Feb. 26, 1927, in Burleson. He was a great-grandson of H.C. Renfro, the town's founder. After graduating from Paschal High School in Fort Worth, Joe received a B.S. in mechanical engineering from Texas A&M. He was commander of "C" Troop Cavalry in the Corps of Cadets, a member of the Ross Volunteers, a member of the Scholarship Honor Society and Tau Beta Pi. He was the winner of the D.A.R. Award as the Most Outstanding Junior Cadet of 1946 and was a Distinguished Student and vice president of his senior class. Joe began his career in the oil and gas industry with Stanolind Oil and Gas Company before joining TXL Oil Corporation in Midland. In 1963 he joined Texas Pacific Oil Company and moved to Dallas. He retired as president in 1985. From 1987 to 2006 Joe was a trustee of the Texas Pacific Land Trust, where he served as chairman from 2000-2003. Joe was a past president of the Dallas Petroleum Club. He was a consummate Christian gentleman. For many years he served as deacon at Believers' Chapel in Dallas, which he considered a great honor. Joe was a remarkable man of many interests, including farming, ranching, personal investments, technology, travel, hunting and fishing on his property in the Hill Country. Survivors: His wife of 60 years, Betty White Clark; son, James Roderick Clark; daughter, Carolyn Clark Edwards; son, Joseph Breen Clark; six grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
