Joe Cross

HURST -- Joe Warren Cross passed away Thursday, June 9, 2011, at the age of 92. Memorial service: 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Richland Hills Christian Church, 3908 Ruth Road, Richland Hills. Interment: private. Visitation: The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Lucas Funeral Home in Hurst. Joe was born Feb. 4, 1919, in Brownwood. To all who knew him, he had a great heart and a generous spirit. After serving at the U.S. Pacific headquarters on Saipan during World War II, he pursued a career in banking and was a board member and executive vice president of Haltom Bank. He enjoyed water-skiing, hunting and RVing, and learned to pilot an airplane at age 40. Joe gave back to his community as an elder at Richland Hills Christian Church and as a lifetime Sertoman and Shriner. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, James Arthur Cross and Myrtle Green Cross; brothers, James Arthur Cross Jr. and Ned Lawson Cross; and two grandchildren, Kimberley Shay Hutcherson and Jimmy Burckhard. Survivors: His loving wife of 71 years, Helen Elizabeth Cross; son, Joe Warren Cross II; daughters, Linda Jo Holley and Janis Ann Burckhard; grandchildren, Eric Holley, Suzanne Krier Holley, Jason Holley, Lisa Holley, Alisson Allen, Dennis Allen and Anya Burckhard; and great-grandchildren, Jo, Jack, Mavis, Garrison, Layla and Akasha.
