FORT WORTH -- John Raymond Granger Jr., 83, died Sunday afternoon, April 27, 2008, at his home. Funeral: 2 p.m. Thursday in the chapel at Robertson Mueller Harper. The Rev. Dr. James Bass, an associate of Travis Avenue Baptist Church, will officiate. Following committal services, John will be laid to rest in Greenwood Memorial Park. Honorary bearers will be Howard Hart, John Howard Hart, Charlie Coker, Jimmy Furr, Lloyd Grimes, Tommy Hammer, Elzie Wilson and members of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. Visitation: John will lie in state on Wednesday in the Parlor at Robertson Mueller Harper; his family will receive friends in the Great Room from 5 to 7 p.m. Memorials: Consideration of contributions to a charity of one's choice, in John's memory, is suggested. A native and lifelong resident of Fort Worth, John R. Granger Jr. was born Dec. 9, 1924, the son of John Raymond and Virginia Evans Granger. He was a graduate of R.L. Paschal High School. John was accepted as a aviation cadet in the U.S. Army Air Corps for pilot training in March 1943. He served in the Air Corps until March 1946. In 1945, while stationed in Illinois at Chanute Field, John met Miss Mary Frances Merrick. He and Mary were married on Feb. 14, 1946, in Mattoon, Ill. His professional career was served as a master electrician. John was a member of Travis Avenue Baptist Church for more than 60 years, as was his membership in the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 116. He was a life member of Southside Lodge #114, A.F. & A.M. and Moslah Shrine. Survivors: His wife of 62 years, Mary; sons, Worth Granger and his wife, Teresa, and John R. Granger III and his wife, Karyn, all of Fort Worth; daughter, Susan Granger Dempsey and her husband, Terry Lambert, of Granbury; grandchildren, Anne Lowry and her husband, Jim, Cheryl Johnson and her husband, Patrick Provost, David Granger, Amy Maloney and her husband, Patrick, Stephanie Dempsey and Jeff Dempsey; several great-grandchildren; sister, Juanita Granger Hart and her husband, Howard; and nephew, John Howard Hart.
