John "Jack" Powell, 87, a retired major in the United States Air Force, passed away Friday, Oct. 28, 2005, in Arlington. ??? Funeral: 10 a.m., Wednesday at St. Gregory's Episcopal Church, 1091 Country Club Dr., Mansfield. Burial: Calvary Cemetery, Mansfield. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Blessing Funeral Home, 401 Elm St., Mansfield. ??? Jack was born Aug. 29, 1918, in Ottawa, Kan., the son of John Harrison and Lena Mae Beiter Powell. He married Wilma Genevieve Griesemer Aug. 21, 1944, in Paris, Texas. ??? Jack was a member of St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church and recently St. Gregory's Episcopal Church of Mansfield. ??? He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army and the U.S. Air Force. In his service, he earned the Air Medal, American Camp Medal, A/P Camp Medal, EAME Camp Medal, American Defense Service Medal, and the Silver Star. ??? After his retirement he went on to work in the aircraft industry as an electronics engineer and later retired from LTV. ??? He was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma; and by a granddaughter, Lawrie A. Batts. ??? Survivors: Daughters, Nancy L. Stewart and husband, Leon, Carol L. Batts and husband, Glenn, Jane R. Parrott and husband, Bill; grandchildren, John R. Fairbanks, Shiloh D. Buschman, Dickey L. Parrott, Brandy L. King, David H. Parrott, Robert D. Parrott, Brent W. Parrott, Michael S. Stewart; 13 grandchildren; and numerous other family and friends.
