The family will receive friends Monday, May 31, from 5-7 PM at Lucas Funeral Home, 137 East Hill Street in Keller. Beloved husband, father and grandfather, John was born January 21, 1943, in Bay City, Texas, to the late Mildred and Henry J. Sherrer. Devoted husband of Ann Sherrer for the past 44 years, as well as loving father to Amanda Horn, Carleton Sherrer, Nathan Sherrer and Bethann Barnhart and doting grandfather to Haley and Kendall Horn, Justin, Collin, Blaire and Robin Sherrer. A graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, John worked for Bell Helicopter Textron for forty years. Before retiring, he proudly served as Bell's Chief Engineer on the Presidential Helicopter Program. An active member of the Methodist Church from childhood until recent years when he became ill, John served on numerous committees including the Building Committee of the First United Methodist Church of Keller when they broke ground at the Johnson Road location. John always strove to be the best at everything he did; whether it was cooking, dancing or gardening, he succeeded. His love of and skill with photography was legendary among family and friends. The thing he loved most was his grandchildren; he greatly enjoyed spending his time teaching all the young ones to drive his golf cart and truck at every opportunity. John's other survivors include his brothers, Henry J. Sherrer of Fort Worth and Van Sherrer of Wyoming. He is also survived by his aunt and uncle Norma and Coy Ramsey of Bay City and aunt Lucille Hinds of Houston. To honor John's memory contributions may be made to the International Myeloma Foundation www.myeloma.org
