John Edward Treston, 82, of Mansfield died Friday, Feb. 23, 2007. Funeral: 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at Blessing Funeral Home Chapel, 401 Elm St., Mansfield. Burial: 3 p.m. Tuesday in Dallas-Ft. Worth National Cemetery, Lane B. Mr. Treston had been an employee of the state of Illinois for 40 years and retired in 1990 as the chief deputy commissioner of the Department of Banks and Trust. He was active in St. Agnes Catholic Church and community while living in Springfield, Ill. He relocated to Texas in 2003 to live with his daughter and son-in-law. He served in the army infantry in World War II as a member of Bushmaster Unit and was awarded two Bronze Stars, a Purple Heart and a Good Conduct Medal for his actions in the South Pacific campaigns. Mr. Treston was born Dec. 19, 1924, in Quincy, Ill. His marriage to Ms. Margaret Ellen Monckton on Nov. 26, 1947, lasted 60 years. Survivors: His widow and children, Jeff Treston, Meg Wingert, the Rev. Kevin Treston O.F.M., Maureen Treston, John G. Treston and Paul Treston; brother, James R. Treston; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
