JON BERG

FORT WORTH -- Jon Ian Berg died peacefully Wednesday morning, July 28, 2010, during his 72nd year, after a long, courageous battle with cancer.        Service: 1 p.m. Monday at Grace Lutheran Church, 7900 McCart Avenue. The Rev. Mark Moore, pastor of the church, will officiate. Jon's cremated remains will be placed privately in the columbarium in Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. Visitation: Family and friends will be received in the Great Room at Robertson Mueller Harper from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday.        Memorials: In lieu of flowers, consideration of contributions to a charity of one's choice, honoring Jon's memory, is suggested.        Born May 7, 1938, in Austin, Jon was the son of Herman and Hazel Linge Berg. In 1945 the family moved to Fort Worth where Jon graduated from Arlington Heights High School.        After spending four years in the U.S. Navy, Jon joined IBM. He took early retirement in 1997 after receiving many honors from the company.        Jon had many varied interests that included fishing, history, archeology and genealogy. He was very proud of his Norwegian heritage and loved his family.        He was preceded in death by his parents; stepmother, Alice Marie; and a daughter, Monique Elizabeth.        Survivors: In addition to his wife of 48 years, Linda Spurlock Berg, Jon is survived by his son, Erik; beloved grandchildren, whom he doted on, Trae and Brooke Ashley Berg; brother, Gary Berg and his wife, Linda, of Austin; sisters, Kay Berg of Wilmington, N.C., and Jo Ann Berg Megahan and her husband, Michael, of Francistown, Botswana; and nieces and nephews and their families.
